The importance of conversation with women
The Importance of Conversation, and where small statements lead my brain
Recently, a friend of mine and I started working together again – for the third time. She and I have years of history as colleagues and friends. I have always valued our conversations. She is one of those gals who can wholeheartedly disagree with me, but like me anyway, and vice versa.
The other day, she made the statement, “There is really nothing more difficult in life than relationships”. So, of course, me being me, I started really thinking about that. And I have come to the conclusion that she is absolutely correct.
Relationships are wholeheartedly the most difficult things to navigate in life. They are also the most important, most precious, most valuable commodity we have as humans. Think about this: how much time and effort do you put in to your relationship? I mean really thinking things through and changing behaviors or doing nice things, or just listening to your partner? I would like to think that I do a lot of that, but the reality is, I spend more time and effort on my work life. I find great self-worth from doing great work.
In real life, while work life is important, here are some things that work will NOT do:
- Help with the kids when I have a bad migraine
- Let me cry and hug me when my friend gets into a fatal car accident
- Take me on motorcycle rides through the beautiful hills of Southern Missouri
- Arrange to have the churchvan picked up and repaired when it breaks down on the side of the road
- Talk me through difficult parenting moments
- Encourage me to eat healthy and exercise
- Bring me coffee in the morning
- Love my kids
- Love me, even when I have morning breath
So, this weekend, when I am not at work, I plan to smother my important relationships with the attention that they deserve.
Ily and your beautiful insights.
